Geo- and Biomarker Lab

Compound-Specific Isotope Standard
© Daniel Giddings-Vassao
The Geo- and Biomarker Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation to analyze past environmental and human-ecosystem interactions on a molecular level by bulk and compound-specific isotope analyses, targeted quantification of organic compounds, and trace element analyses.
For sample analyses and data acquisition, the geo- and biomarker lab hosts several mass spectrometers. Target isotopes for bulk analyses are Carbon, Nitrogen, and Oxygen; for compound-specific analyses, they are Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Hydrogen. Targeted detection and quantification of single compounds include alkanes, fatty acids, amino acids, and plant-specialized (“secondary”) metabolites.
