Call for Papers: West Africa and the Origins of Humankind - A Deep Time Perspective
Conference Dates: December 3rd-5th, 2024
Location: Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology, Jena, Germany (Hybrid Event)
Hosted by: Dr. Eleanor Scerri and the Human Palaeosystems Research Group
We are excited to announce the upcoming hybrid conference, "West Africa and the Origins of Humankind - A Deep Time Perspective." This event will be the first major conference dedicated to exploring human evolution and the deep human past in West Africa. This region has been historically overlooked compared to other parts of the continent, and we aim to highlight its significant contributions to our understanding of human origins and evolution.
Join us in Jena or online for an enriching and impactful conference that promises to advance our understanding of West Africa's role in human evolution.
Key Topics will include the Pleistocene archaeological, palaeoanthropological, palaeoenvironmental and palaeoecological record of West Africa, methodological advances, including chronometric dating and lithic analysis, and hominin palaeobiology with new evolutionary interpretations encompassing behaviour and phylogeny.
