The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science is pleased to host Ricardo Fernandes for a hybrid lecture on the topic: “Towards a systems-based historical science.”
Ricardo argues that, although there is growing global awareness of major societal and environmental problems—there is much debate on how best to approach these. Ricardo proposes that we can gain actionable knowledge by better understanding the legacies of the past and the historical dynamics of complex human-environmental systems. Ricardo will be describing various theoretical and applied contributions toward the establishment of a systems-based historical science and illustrate their importance using case studies.
