Big Historical Data Conference

The Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology will host the first Big Historical Data conference 22-25 November 2023

The digital revolution is providing unprecedented opportunitiesfor deepening our understanding of the human story. Open to allresearchers from disciplines involved in the study of past human groups andtheir environmental context, such as historical, archaeological, andpalaeo-climate and palaeo-environmental studies, the conference will be a forumfor exploring theoretical aspects including ontologies, data infrastructure,modelling approaches, and relevant case studies.

With an ever-growing accumulation of digital data informing us ofvarious aspects of past human and environmental systems, advanced computationaland modelling techniques are being used to gain new insights into historicalprocesses. The inaugural Big Historical Data Conference will capitalize on thepossibilities offered by digital methods in historical research.
